Fuel type, engine, factory equipment, and original manufacturing data decoded from the VIN itself. Reliable across all providers.

How to actually pick one, without the marketing talk.
A VIN number can tell you a remarkable amount about a car. It can also tell you very little, depending on which service you pay. The gap between the best and worst providers in our test was not subtle: on the same vehicle, one returned twelve mileage readings, another returned six, and a third returned two.
The question is not really which VIN check service is best. It's which one is best for the specific car you're researching. A German-market Audi will reveal more through a European-focused provider; a US-imported Mustang needs a North American database. The mistake most buyers make is assuming all VIN services are interchangeable. They aren't.

What actually matters
Three factors separate the good from the mediocre: geographic coverage for the country the vehicle came from, depth of records per VIN (not just number of categories, but actual data points within each category), and transparent pricing without surprise upsells at checkout.
Price on its own is not a reliable signal. The cheapest report we tested was not the most complete, and the most expensive was one of the thinnest. The report that told us the most about the car cost more than the budget option and still came in well below the priciest. Match the provider to the vehicle, and pay a little more for depth when it matters.
When to run two reports
If you're spending more than about ten thousand euros on a used car, it's worth running reports from two different providers. The overlap is the ground truth; the disagreements are what you need to investigate before signing anything. Total cost: under thirty euros. The cost of getting it wrong: considerably more.
